Guadalajara, also known as the land of tequila and mariachi, has known how to combine its traditions and culture with a modern world.
The city of Guadalajara is the second most populated city in Mexico. It is considered an economic and business pillar for the Bajío region. Its economy is based on the service and manufacturing industry, especially the industry of information technology. Many companies in this branch have their headquarters in Guadalajara. Also companies dedicated to the production of textiles, shoes and food contribute to this city on a large scale.
Guadalajara is an important cultural center for Mexico. It is the site of important international cultural events such as the International Book Fair, the International Film Festival and the Mariachi and Charrería International Encounter among others.
The historical center of Guadalajara preserves the historical monuments of the city.
The Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the most representative symbols of the city. Its architecture is a mixture of Gothic, Neoclassical, Baroque and Arabic styles that reflect each historical stage that it has lived. It has two magnificent towers built in the 19th century after an earthquake collapsed the original towers.
Within the historic center of Guadalajara there are several historical monuments worth visiting.
Among which highlights the Rotunda of the Illustrious Jalisco, a monument made of quarry and built in 1952 in honor of illustrious Jalisco, where rest the remains of important people in the history of Jalisco, as Gabriel Flores Garcia, Jose Guadalupe Zuno among many others.
There are many squares and public parks within the center of Guadalajara always offering an atmosphere of party and fun for tourists and locals.
Among the most outstanding is the Plaza de Armas surrounded by beautiful gardens. At the center stands out its magnificent kiosk of the XIX century, which was brought from Paris to celebrate the centenary of independence in 1908. Other squares and parks worth visiting are the Plaza Tapatía, the Plaza del Agave, the Plaza de los Mariachis, the Plaza Liberación, Plaza Guadalajara, the Morelos Park, the Revolution Park among others.
