The state of Campeche has large natural areas and a large number of Mayan archaeological sites that up to now show the splendor of this culture.

The state of Campeche has a large territory of natural areas where the Mayan culture was accentuated developing towns and communities between 800 a.C. and 1540 AD, the archaeological zones are classified into four styles: Puuc, Chenes, Rio Belec and Petén, all of them with a splendid past that arouse admiration today.

In each of the Mayan cities there are magnificent archaeological works full of temples, palaces, rooms, ceremonial centers, ball games, astrological observatories that can be admired in the Puuc region, the Chenes, Rio Becerras and Peten.

Among the Mayan archaeological zones of the state of Campeche we can mention Calakmul, Balamkú, Becán, Chicanná, Edzná, El Tigre, Kanki, Tohcok, Xpujíl and other more important ones.

Calakmul is a World Heritage Site deemed by UNESCO for being a Biosphere Reserve and Mayan Archaeological Zone.

San Francisco de Campeche is the capital of the state known as the “Fortified Historic City”.

The Capital of Campeche was a city surrounded by walls to avoid attacks and the entry of pirates. Nowadays only one third of the wall is conserved. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 for its historic architecture.

The cuisine of the state of Campeche includes real delicacies.

Within its cuisine of the state of Campeche we can find real delicacies like coconut shrimp, pibipollo, crab cakes and dogfish among others.
